I am a second-year Applied Linguistics PhD student in the Department of Education at Concordia University in Montréal, Canada, starting in Fall 2019. My advisor is Prof. Kim McDonough. Prior to coming to Concordia University, I was a PhD student (Fall 2018-Spring 2019) at the Department of Second Language Studies at University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, USA. I received my master's degree in English Teaching from National Taiwan Normal University, Taiwan under the direction of Prof. Yeu-Ting Liu in 2017, and my bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature from Fu Jen Catholic University, Taiwan in 2012.
My research interests lie in the area of the interface between second language acquisition and computer-assisted language learning, particularly task-based language teaching and L2 English learners' task-based interaction in the synchronous computer-mediated communication and blended learning contexts, task design for classroom instruction and online learning and its effect on L2 performance, second language pragmatics (i.e., instructional pragmatics, cross-cultural pragmatics, and interlanguage pragmatics), and research methods (e.g., meta-analysis and data elicitation methods in L2 pragmatic comprehension, production, and interaction). My doctoral-level work will focus on the L2 pragmatics teaching-acquisition interface in classroom and/or online learning contexts. I hope that my research findings can contribute to our understanding of how L2 English learners learn pragmatics in various learning contexts, thereby providing pedagogical implications that help L2 practitioners better teach their students for successful interpersonal and intercultural communication.
As of January 2016, I created a Facebook fan page and blog devoted to L2 teaching and learning. Many resources I shared pertain to online learning materials and learning platforms. I believe the opportunities afforded by the advance of computer technologies would transform the way second languages are learned and taught, so I hope to invite those interested in this trend of teaching to consider the integration of the online resources introduced and shared in my webpages into their teaching.
